چکیده

The syncytial cells of a filamentous fungus consist of a mass of growing, tube-like hyphae. Each extending tip is fed by a continuous flow of nuclei from the colony interior, pushed by a gradient in turgor pressure. The myco-fluidic flows of nuclei are complex and multidirectional, like traffic in a city. We map out the flows in a strain of the model filamentous fungus N. crassa that has been transformed so that nuclei express either hH1-dsRed (a red fluorescent nuclear protein) or hH1-GFP (a green-fluorescent protein) and report our results in a fluid dynamics video.

Melting fine structure of filamentous fungus nuclear DNA.

Melting fine structure of the nuclear DNA isolated from the filamentous fungus Fusarium graminearum Schwabe is presented. Optical melting profiles of nuclear DNA were analyzed by using a combination of curve fitting and derivative techniques. The "melting components" were obtained from the derivative curve by a simple decomposition technique. Differential optical melting curves of unsheared nuc...

Nuclear Envelope: Nuclear Pore Complexity

A new study shows that the filamentous fungus, Aspergillus nidulans, which has a closed mitosis, does not maintain a continuous permeability barrier during mitosis. This work challenges current views of the differences between closed and open mitosis and has implications for understanding mitotic specific changes in the nuclear pore complex and Ran GTPase system in lower eukaryotes.

Microbial transformation of the tetrazolinone herbicide f5231.

Microbial transformation of the tetrazolinone herbicide F5231 was accomplished with the filamentous fungus Absidia pseudocylindrospora Hesseltine et Ellis (ATCC 24169). The fungus converted the herbicide to six metabolites which were identified spectrally by mass, infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Isolation of nuclei from Aspergillus nidulans protoplasts.

Intact nuclei were isolated from the protoplasts of the filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans. The large amounts of protoplasts required for such nuclear preparations were produced from young mycelia grown in liquid culture. For final purification of the crude nuclear fraction, a Nycodenz density-gradient centrifugation was applied. The resulting nuclei were of good purity and morphological s...

Structure of Importin-α from a Filamentous Fungus in Complex with a Classical Nuclear Localization Signal

Neurospora crassa is a filamentous fungus that has been extensively studied as a model organism for eukaryotic biology, providing fundamental insights into cellular processes such as cell signaling, growth and differentiation. To advance in the study of this multicellular organism, an understanding of the specific mechanisms for protein transport into the cell nucleus is essential. Importin-α (...
